Ultimately, construction work on the Schlœsing slip road – including the commissioning is scheduled for summer 2023 – must allow:
- to calm the area and to make traffic flow more smoothly by making traffic go underground;
- connect Boulevard Schlœsing to the A50 and the Prado Carénage Tunnel;
- to free up surface space for the passage of the southern extension of the tram line;
- improve the quality of life of local residents along the boulevards and on the Place Général Ferrié by reducing noise pollution which is currently very significant and by facilitating the use of soft mobility.
Focus on developments and traffic trends
As part of the construction site of this ramp and the tramway extension project, the dismantling of the Rabatau footbridges is scheduled for the weekend of August 20 to 23, from Friday, 10 p.m. to Monday, 6 a.m., at the level of Place Général Ferrié.
To carry out this operation safely day and night, a total cut-off of traffic is necessary. The axes leading to the square will be closed to motorists during the weekend, but pedestrian access will be maintained as well as access for emergency vehicles.
The dismantling of the Rabatau footbridges, a “technical feat”
The removal of the Rabatau footbridges from August 20 to 23 will mobilize around sixty employees to remove 400 tonnes of steel which will be reprocessed in a sorting center in Marignane. In all, 3 workshops will be positioned at each end of the footbridge and will deposit the spans simultaneously. The disassembly of the spans will be carried out by cutting with a torch, ditto for the deconstruction of the metal piles. Finally, the demolition of the abutments, concrete piles and foundations will be done with a hydraulic rock breaker.
