Married at First Sight presenter Carlo Boszhard would not participate NOW

In the fifth series of Married at First Sight, which starts on Monday evening, six couples give each other the yes, without having seen each other for one second in advance. Carlo Boszhard, who will take over the presentation from Peter van der Vorst this season, says he would never have participated if he had been single.

“I don’t think I dare to surrender to science,” says Boszhard, who has been together with his friend Herald for twelve years, talking to NU.nl.

He can well imagine that some bachelors do. “If your finger turns purple from Tinder, you may soon be inclined to try such things,” says Boszhard. “And who wants to be alone? I don’t think that’s good for a person either.”

After the departure of Van der Vorst, who had to drop his presentation jobs for RTL because he became program director of the channel, Boszhard received a call from his colleague.

“I had already spoken to Peter before that I would like one Married at First Sight-like program. I went The Masked Singer do and The TV canteen, so I had to add something in which I can be myself and no longer be seen with a sticky mustache. “

Shortly thereafter, Van der Vorst called. “Peter said the job was released and that the editors wanted me to be a presenter. Then I said the historical words:” Yes, I want. ” I think the show is great, watched it myself for years. “

“I am very different from Peter”

For four years, viewers saw Van der Vorst as the face of the program. He speaks with the candidates at important key moments: before and after the yes, after their honeymoon and also when living together. A task that Boszhard is now taking over. “I am a very different person from Peter, but the only thing I have to do is ask questions that come to mind at that moment. How do you feel, why do you act like that, how do you hope he or she looks like?”

Boszhard hopes that the viewer will get used to the new presenter. “But in the end it’s about the candidates. That’s how I stand and that’s why I wanted to do this program.”

In addition to a new presenter, the fifth series will also entail some other changes: for the first time there is a lesbian couple among married couples and the program is broadcast two days a week instead of one. “It’s a very emotional season,” says Boszhard. “At some point the candidates forget that the cameras are on and end up in a bubble.”

“Some people have delusions about ideal partner”

Before the couples are formed, a team of four psychologists and relationship experts put the couples together. This year they have also done well, says Boszhard. “It is nevertheless special that very small things can make such a match unsuccessful. Some people have delusions about the prince or princess on the white horse. Then he is a beautiful boy, but he wears white socks. Then it is of course not crazy if you stay alone your whole life. “

Did Boszhard himself become faithful after the recordings? “We are very happy with each other, he is the man of my life: I love him and vice versa. We also work together, but that goes well, we keep each other sharp. Whether we want to get married? What is not, is still possible I think it’s more important that we celebrate life. “

Married at First Sight can be seen on RTL4 from Monday 6 January every Monday and Tuesday at 8.30 p.m.
