Markus Cramer finished as Russian national team coach in cross-country skiing

Russia’s national team coach in cross-country skiing, German Markus Cramer, has finished his job. It reports VGwhich cites Russian RIA Novosti.

It is Russia’s ski president Jelena Välbe who confirms that Cramer’s contract will not be extended after this season.

Payment problems are stated as the reason why the contract is not extended.

According to RIA Novosti, Sergei Pogrebnyak of the Russian Ski Federation says that there will be problems with paying Cramer’s salary due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, after the country invaded Ukraine.

– I do not think we will be able to get him to work with us further. It’s a kind of utopia only. Of course, both he and we want him, but it is impossible, says Välbe to RIA Novosti, according to VG.

Russian cross-country skiing was banned from international competitions at the end of the winter season.

Cramer has been the coach of the Russians since 2015. He has been responsible for the Russian training group where Sergei Ustyugov is the most deserving athlete. Yuri Borodavko has led the group with stars such as Aleksandr Bolshunov and Natalia Neprjajeva.
