The popular Internet portal “Transfermarkt” published an update on the market values of professional footballers around the world on Wednesday. Due to the corona crisis, all players lose value, sometimes massively.

The medium and long-term consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic for football are still unpredictable, the portal writes. However, it is becoming apparent that fewer financial opportunities would be available worldwide than before the crisis. According to the calculations, the market value of all players together drops by 9.22 billion euros. The value of the Super League players is melting from 280 million euros to 233 million euros.

Players born in 1998 or later are downgraded by 10 percent. The market values of the older vintages are revised downwards by 20 percent. Of course, this also results in shifts in the ranking of the world’s most valuable players. For example, 20-year-old Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho (new 117 instead of 130 million euros) passes Lionel Messi (new 112 instead of 140 million euros).

There are also shifts in Switzerland. The market values of FCB goalie Jonas Omlin and YB striker Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu decrease from 6 to 4.8 million euros. FCZ youngster Kevin Rüegg is now the sole front runner – his value drops from 6 to 5.4 million euros.
