Market Update: MDax Falls as Semiconductor Sector Weighs, Fresenius and Daimler Truck Show Promising Results

Frankfurt/Main Unlike the Dax, the MDax did not make any gains, with the index of medium-sized titles falling by 0.53 percent to 28,231.01 points. The two food suppliers Hellofresh and Delivery Hero suffered losses here.

A deteriorating outlook from the world’s largest chip producer TSMC weighed on the semiconductor sector. The shares of the chip manufacturer Infineon fell by 1.8 percent and those of the plant manufacturer Aixtron, which specializes in the chip industry, by 2.9 percent.

The shares of the medical group Fresenius took the lead in the Dax with a price increase of 6.4 percent. Confident comments from analysts on the quarterly figures of the dialysis subsidiary FMC provided support. However, investors are currently buying the parent company’s shares after FMC shares have already risen by more than 60 percent this year. In comparison, Fresenius still has considerable potential to catch up. Nevertheless, FMC titles were able to increase by at least 1.4 percent.

Daimler Truck increased its operating profit in the second quarter more than expected by the market. The price of the commercial vehicle manufacturer increased by 1.1 percent. At the steel manufacturer Salzgitter, profits have recently fallen surprisingly sharply, the papers lost 4.4 percent.

In the second row, Hellofresh also lost 7.1 percent. The number of active customers of the sender of cooking boxes is disappointing, wrote analyst Thomas Maul from DZ Bank and lowered the shares to “sell”. In the wake of Hellofresh, Delivery Hero fell by 5.2 percent.

A buy recommendation from the bank Societe Generale pushed the shares of K+S up 3.4 percent as the MDax leader. In contrast, the papers of the credit and real estate broker Hypoport fell by 9.2 percent after Hauck Aufhäuser Investment Banking had canceled the buy recommendation for the papers.

Europe’s stock exchanges also went up on Thursday. The EuroStoxx 50 closed 0.26 percent higher at 4373.73 points. The leading index Cac 40 in Paris and the FTSE 100 in London made even stronger gains. The New York Dow Jones Industrial was up 0.8 percent at the end of trading in Europe.

The euro gave way and was quoted at 1.1142 US dollars in the evening. The European Central Bank (ECB) had set the reference rate at 1.1197 US dollars. On the bond market, the current yield rose from 2.40 percent the previous day to 2.50 percent. The Rex pension index fell by 0.37 percent to 124.65 points. The Bund future lost 0.62 percent to 133.05 points.
