SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – JULY 22: Registered Nurse Ali Murphy is seen wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at a Bondi Beach COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic on July 22, 2020 in Sydney, Australia. New South Wales recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the state’s total number of coronavirus cases to 3,425. NSW residents are being urged to avoid non-essential travel and large crowds, as health authorities work to contain several COVID-19 cluster outbreaks across the state. Cases linked to the Crossroads Hotel, Thai Rock and Batemans Bay Soldiers Club clusters have been shown to all be linked to virus strains in Victoria, where residents are currently in lockdown due to the dramatic rise in community transmissions. Maria, Reanimation Nurse: “the Coronavirus Pandemic this time is different, I go to work with terror on”.

Maria it’s a Resuscitation Nurse and works in a well-known health company in Northern Italy in full swing Red Zone. In his ward there are 28 beds, all occupied by patients suffering from Covid-19. His last night was terrifying: “I never imagined I would be so afraid, this time the Pandemic is worse than that of March and the Italians still haven’t noticed it”.

We have collected his audio testimony, taking care to disguise his voice so as not to incur disciplinary calls on his part. What he tells us is terrifying.

The witness.

Maria is frightened, disappointed by a nursing profession that is no longer a nursing profession, offended by managers who treat her as a number and who have done nothing to reorganize health care in anticipation of the pandemic now underway again.

Maria is tired, fearful of what will happen tomorrow, she is returning home, but she does not know if she will sleep, she does not know if she, like her work colleagues, is already positive for Coronavirus.

Maria is also afraid of her young graduates, thrown into the grip of a Coronavirus that does not look anyone in the face.

Maria wants to throw in the towel, but she can’t do it because, despite the low adrenaline, she has to find the maybe to save as many lives as possible. He has already succeeded in the past, he does not know if he will succeed again in the next round.
