Maria Giacobbe had lived in Denmark, her husband’s homeland, since 1957. the writer Uffe Harder, with whom he had two sons, Thomas and Andreas, the latter drowned at sea in Orosei when he was 55 years old. Among his books there is Diary between two worlds (Diary between two worlds) published in Danish in 1975 and published in Italy two years later with the title The roots, in which the author recounted the memories of her ancestors’ Nuoro, a theme that will also be taken up in the following one Masks and some angels of 1994, published in Italy in 1999 with the title Masks and naked angels: childhood portrait. In 2000, director Giovanni Columbu made the film Archipelagos based on the novel of the same name.

Maria was the daughter of Dino Giacobbeanti-fascist engineer, highly decorated officer in the First World War, among the founders of the Sardinian Action Party and then a republican fighter in Spain and an exile in the United States until the end of the war, and of Graziella Sechi, primary school teacher, who, sharing her husband’s ideas, like him was persecuted by the fascist regime.

He grew up and studied in Nuoro where, after attending the Giorgio Asproni Royal High School, he preferred to conclude his studies by obtaining a master’s degree. This allowed her to have a job as an elementary teacher in the towns surrounding Nuoro since the Second World War. Later she began to collaborate with various newspapers and magazines and made her debut as a writer by narrating her experiences as a young teacher.
