María Corina Machado assures that she went to the Supreme Court to “challenge Maduro and the regime”

(EFE).- The presidential candidate of the main opposition coalition in Venezuela, María Corina Machado, assured this Friday, after requesting the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to review the disqualification that prevents her from competing for popularly elected positions, that she took this decision to “challenge” President Nicolás Maduro and “the regime”, in relation to the Chavista Government.

“We went to the TSJ to challenge Maduro and the regime, that’s what we went to, and we are going to make it clear, as it is established in the document that we introduced, that I am not disqualified, that this is a non-existent act and, therefore, the “The resource that we introduced is a de facto claim (…) and it will be up to the TSJ to recognize it as well,” he said at a press conference.

The former deputy assured that this “delicate” and “complex” process that she is carrying out requires “quick and bold” measures and decisions, which “are part of the strategy” applied so that the presidential elections, scheduled for the second half of 2024 , are “free” and can participate.

“We are going to do everything that needs to be done so that this path towards clean and free elections is maintained and advances,” said Machado, who insisted that he has taken an “unequivocal step in the direction of the defeat of Maduro.”

“We are going to do everything we have to do so that this path towards clean and free elections is maintained and advances”

The opposition leader, without notifying the media and after days avoiding answering whether she would go to the Supreme Court, chose at the last minute to adhere to the disqualification review process agreed upon between the Government and the largest anti-Chavista bloc, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD). ), whose applications were received until today.

Upon leaving the TSJ, Machado declared before a small group of journalists that, after his presentation in court, “the ball is now in the side” of the head of state, who will be responsible, he predicted, for deciding whether he complies with the agreement with the international community to ensure “clean” elections next year.

Machado swept the opposition primaries on October 22, when he received 92.35% of the votes, so he hopes to compete in the elections in the second half of next year against Chavismo, whose candidate has not been made official.

“We back and support your decision and your fight to consolidate political change”

On the other hand, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) of Venezuela, which brings together the majority opposition, supported Machado’s decision this Friday.

“We back and support her decision and her fight to consolidate political change,” expressed the alliance in primaries, in which she became the candidate of the main opposition coalition for the 2024 presidential elections.

In particular, the Voluntad Popular (VP) party, led by Leopoldo López from exile, published a statement in support of Machado and his decision to “file a de facto complaint and a precautionary protection over a non-existent disqualification.” , one more “step towards the defeat” of Chavismo in the presidential elections, scheduled for the second half of next year.

In turn, former deputy Juan Pablo Guanipa said that Machado “paves the way towards the presidential election,” and now “it is up to the regime,” in reference to the Government of Nicolás Maduro, “to do its part.”
