Marek Rodák on Future with Fulham and Slovakian National Team

If it was only up to the decision of the Slovakian national team goalkeeper Marek Rodák, it would be completely simple. He would prefer the option of catching, and that includes leaving London’s Fulham. However, as he revealed to ŠPORT.sk, fate does not lie in his hands.

Part of the football organization Fulham FC he has basically been since January 2013, which means he has belonged to this traditional English club for 11 long years. Although he has a number of significant achievements to his credit, even with “The Cottagers”, he is still not the one on whose shoulders the absolute greatest reliance would rest.

Slovak football goalkeeper Marek Rodák he gets the opportunity between the three posts only sporadically, as the German holds his place with firm hands in the Fulham goal Bernd Leno. “The biggest wish for the new year? Probably just enough to be healthy and to start fishing regularly. That’s the most important thing for me,” Rodák told ŠPORT.sk.

However, on December 13, 2023, the management of Fulham decided to extend the contract with the 31-year-old German until the summer of 2027, and Rodák thus received a signal that he will have to start working harder on his position in the team. Not only on the training ground.

“We’ll see what that means for my situation. I have a contract until the end of the season and the club still has an option for another year. Everything will become clear now or over the summer. We’ll see how they react to me and what their plans are for me. I want to present to them my proposal, which would be according to my ideas, so we’ll see how it turns out,” he thought.

In this period, it is even more important for Rodák to get his gloves on permanently than at any other time, as he should be playing with Slovakia at the EURO 2024 tournament in half a year. “Yes, that is definitely very important for me, but not only for the European Championships, but also for the future. I’ve already had enough and I’d like to finally start fishing,” you sighed.

He will either know the verdict now or in May

Despite the fact that Marek Rodák has a contract with Fulham only until the end of the current season, he cannot yet negotiate with possible applicants, which prevents him from the fact that the “cottages” have an option to extend the cooperation for another year. So the decision is up to the club management and not the Slovak representative.

“That’s why I can’t even negotiate with other teams or sign a contract yet. Something like this will only be possible during May,” states the 27-year-old from Košice, who, however, does not hang his head and plans to discuss his situation already during the current January transfer window.

“Certainly yes. The club’s representatives are also supposed to meet with my agents and discuss together what the club’s plans are for me in the future. We’ll see what crystallizes out of it, but I’d like to know what I’m in for.” you wished

However, if it was strictly up to his own decision, then it would be completely simple: “I would prefer to be able to catch regularly. However, I cannot say how it will turn out in the end. It’s January, and during this time it’s even more difficult for goalkeepers than for outfield players. Besides, I don’t know if they would even let me go anywhere. We’ll see how it works out. If there are any interested parties, we will see if they will contact us. That is no longer in my hands.’

Confidence from coach Marc Silva

Priority is given to the German Leno, who is the clear unit of Fulham, which is frustrating for Marek Rodák. Nevertheless, he enjoys the trust of Portuguese coach Marco Silva. “Yes, it is, and he wants me to stay. He is happy that I am still trying to fight for the post of the unit and that I am still ready. He wants me to stay at the club,” he repeated.

Marek Rodák

Marek Rodák is in an unenviable situation, but he still tries to keep his head straight and work on himself. As he admitted to ŠPORT.sk, he also registers some offers for a possible departure, but he certainly does not intend to rush anything and tries to leave the situation in the hands of his representatives. However, his priority is to stay in England, where he knows it best and where he spent practically his entire football career.

For example, in the second division Rotherham United, which he helped to get to The Championship in the past. He also faced the club from the suburbs of Sheffield in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Friday and was able to knock it out with Fulham after a narrow 1:0 win. “It was very nostalgic for me and it’s always special when you play against a team you’ve spent two and a half seasons with. It was definitely special. I was pleased that we won and moved on,” added at the end for ŠPORT.sk.
