This Thursday, January 11, the debut album of Yulia Zakirova will be presented at the club “Blues House”, but it is already available on streaming services.
The album “Golden Hour” is extremely colorful and multifaceted in its sound and musical mood. “Initially, this album was supposed to sound much more ‘ethnic’, but during the creative process the style of the album changed more and more and got a late 80’s – early 90’s sound, with a kind of symbiosis of funk, jazz and “cinematic”, as well as a little ” fusion” and a taste of disco music,” says Júlija Zakirova.
It should be noted that she is one of the most original Latvian jazz singers, as well as a composer. She graduated from the “New Park” music school in Dublin and the Jāzeps Vītolas Academy of Music of Latvia. “Saulkrasti Jazz” etc.
The producer of the album is drummer Andris Buiķis, while a special surprise for the listeners will be a ballad in Tatar, the music for which was composed by jazz pianist Madars Kalniņš, and the words were written in Tatar by the author from Tatarstan, Gulfia Shakirova.
“”If you want to see the world in a different light – start with yourself and the changes in your inner world. The compositions composed by Andras Buiķa were quite different from my usual style, but it seemed interesting, because I had to try new vocal techniques and properly prepare,” says the singer herself about the creation of the album.
