Marco Columbro turns 70. And even if for some time no longer among the owners of top programs, having privileged the theater in the last phase of his career, for many it remains one of the most popular faces of TV. Merit of his arrival in Mediaset when he was still Fininvest, a pioneer of that commercial TV which (also) through his face, his mustache, formed the imprinting of what would have been.

The beginnings with Between wife and husband
Among his first successful programs, there was Just a wife and husband, a first experiment of what is now consolidated as reality: the entertainment of access prime time. aired from 1987 to 29 June 1991, clashing against the evening edition of the Rai news programs, when Mediaset did not have one of its own. Columbro – light-hearted but serious style, on the one hand conductor in a suit and tie, indeed, in a bow tie, on the other whimsical actor with a cynical irony – soon managed to establish himself as one of the pillars of the private networks that were undermining the Rai monopoly .

The partnership with Cuccarini
The nineties are those of the consolidation of an increasingly domineering success. Just then, he knows what will become his historical companion, Lorella Cuccarini. Together they will conduct dozens of programs and appointments of the networks. Among all, Happy Sunday as well as Paperissima and four editions of Trenta ore per la vita.

The aneurysm
The horrible year 2001. Finally, on December 7th, hit by a cerebral aneurysm: he will remain in a coma for a month. After a few months he returns to TV, but the last program he leads in 2003, always with Lorella Cuccarini: Let’s bet that …?. But the results are not encouraging, so much so that Columbro has since devoted himself mainly to theater, where he stars in comedies such as Tootsie and Il vizietto.

Buddhism
Since the late 1980s, Columbro has combined his artistic passion with spiritual research: not only practical but also one of the main disseminators of Tibetan Buddhism in Italy. Speaking of his discipline, he said: I know that passing happiness, while you have to conquer serenity, learning to manage emotions, for lasting.
