Marco Borsato (54) has broken the silence after his hotly debated divorce from wife Leontien. The Dutch singer was candid about the suicidal thoughts that plagued him. “Maybe I will get out, I was that deep,” said Borsato.

Borsato broke the media silence – which he had persisted for over a year – on Saturday evening with a television interview in the program of the popular TV star Linda De Mol. “I want to tell my story once”, it sounded there. “Because I want to make it clear that I am not running away from the things I have done.” And that story is not beautiful: Borsato announced the divorce from his wife Leontine Ruiters at the beginning of 2020 after 22 years of marriage, after several extramarital affairs. He was struggling with a severe burnout.
In fact, things went so badly with the singer that he harbored suicidal thoughts, he confessed. “I have felt very bad, there are few people who know that. I lay under a blanket at my mother’s house for six months. I couldn’t do it anymore, I had very black thoughts. Maybe I will get out, I was that deep, ” said Borsato. With the help of his mother and best friend Peter, Borsato recovered. Or as he described it himself: “I’m in the green again”.
Borsato also expressed regret for the various affairs he had. In his own words, they were a result of the stress caused by the bankruptcy of his company in 2009. “We both deal differently with stress and problems. I am someone who flees forward, rolls up his sleeves and starts fighting. And she tends to close, ”he said. “Then infidelity came into play. I made the wrong choices, and I am now paying the price for that. I regret it unbelievably. ” Borsato expressed that regret in December in a long letter to his ex-wife, in which he said he took full responsibility for his actions.
