Marc-Marie: ‘Tim Hofman has a Jesus complex’ | Stars

entertainment">In de podcast MarcMarie & aaf find something Marc-Marie and Aaf Brandt Corstius discuss the interview Tim recently gave to men’s magazine Esquire, about ‘what it means to be a man now’. “That is of course, because it is also a bit about masculinity and femininity and he sometimes goes to a premiere in a dress,” Aaf knows.

entertainment">“Well, what he rubs against, he rubs against a lot of things, is that it’s a little cultural appropriation of gays. I think he’s a bit…” Aaf: “He steals gay style?” Marc-Marie: „Yes, while he is like: Surely that should all be possible? He also has to do all that, that metrosexual, so to speak. But of course it’s much easier for him. It’s kind of like being white and then putting your hair in dreadlocks. That you think: I like that.”

on a donkey

entertainment">When Aaf indicates that Tim just ‘likes it’ to adopt such a style, Marc-Marie emphasizes that that’s why he finds it a difficult subject. “Tim has a kind of Jesus complex, I think. He would prefer to arrive on a donkey somewhere in Utrecht with hosanna. That everyone hangs around it.”

entertainment">In the Esquireinterview, among other things, Tim answers the question about which subject he is angry about. “I am angry about all things about oppression and inequality. Now I am concerned about the Uyghurs, a group that is being oppressed, also here in the Netherlands,” said Tim in the magazine. Marc-Marie agrees with that. “It kind of sounds like, ‘Yeah, I’m worrying about the Uyghurs this afternoon.’ Or maybe every summer, or the beginning of every week or so.” Aaf: “Especially because of the word ‘now’. Marc-Marie: “Yes.”

Vlaardingen provincial

entertainment">On Twitter, Tim responds extensively to the statements of the couple. For example, he says that, also from a practical point of view, he has never worn a dress. “I get the point. I don’t think linking clothing to sexuality is the way to go; as well as linking clothing to gender. In fact, that idea also gets in the way of straight men, as far as I’m concerned. And so, because I want to and find it beautiful, I sometimes – at times when it doesn’t get in the way of someone else’s story – wear somewhat more explicit clothing. At parties, during shoots. The nail polish, earrings and other details are also everyday fare.”

entertainment">Tim denies having a Messiah complex. “Just like the vast majority of all opinion makers, dopamine addicts and platform users here (on Twitter, ed.). I am a provincial from Vlaardingen who absolutely hates imbalanced power relations, taboos and oppressive constructs. Something that is of course also sometimes about myself, because let’s not pretend that pure altruism really is a thing that exists. Anyway, don’t be fooled into thinking your activism is too much or too messianic, asking kindly never solves a big problem.”
