Marc Coucke has to pay American pharmaceutical giant Perrigo more than a quarter of a…

Marc Coucke and the financial consortium around the investment fund Waterland must pay Perrigo, the buyer of his Omega Pharma, compensation of 266 million euros. This has been decided by the Belgian arbitration center in Brussels, De Tijd reports.

What preceded the process: in 2014, the American pharmaceutical giant Perrigo bought the Flemish Omega Pharma for 3.8 billion. Main shareholder Marc Coucke collected 1.3 billion, but after the sale Perrigo started to grumble. According to them, Omega Pharma had cheated: structural costs had been written into the books as one-off costs and products that were still allowed to be returned were registered as definitively sold.

Perrigo started proceedings before the Belgian arbitration center and demanded damages of 1.9 billion. One half had to pay the Waterland fund (which received half of the sales price), the other half to Marc Coucke. That procedure dragged on for five years, but the verdict was delivered on Friday evening.
