When preparing the budget in October last year, the federal government assumed a joint Belgian deficit of 32.8 billion euros or 6.8 percent of gross domestic product in 2021.
But those calculations date from before the second corona wave. The monitoring committee already assumed a deterioration of 3 billion in February, which has risen to 5 billion five months later.
This brings the provisional deficit to 37.8 billion euros or 7.8 percent of GDP for all governments together. Since the last measurement, it is mainly the expenditure of the federal states that has derailed, reports De Tijd.
