The Toronto Maple Leafs finished their 2022-23 regular season with 50 wins and 111 points. Although their game against the New York Rangers lacked energy, there were individual milestones to hit. William Nylander scored his 40th goal of the season after firing shots from the beginning of the game. Goalkeeper Joseph Woll added another confidence sticker to his notebook after making 22 saves in the game. Noel Acciari scored the game-winning goal to mark his 100th point in the NHL.
Matthew Knies, who played in three games, showed his strength and speed along the boards and proved he could play and compete at the NHL level. Head Coach Sheldon Keefe may consider playing him in the playoffs if he can generate the same amount of chances in a bottom-six role.
The game’s biggest focus was on Woll and Knies, who proved they could be options in the playoffs. Keefe will have a lot to think about ahead of their playoff campaign. The Leafs will now face their next challenge in the playoffs.
