For this it needs so-called cartenoids. They are found in various types of vegetables, such as carrots, kale, spinach and endive.

Health workers indicate that they rarely see people with complaints that they relate to a lack of vitamin A, according to the RIVM. However, according to the researchers, healthcare professionals may overlook the connection. In any case, they are ‘little alert’ to it. That is why RIVM recommends follow-up research.


Moreover, too much vitamin A is not good either: an overdose can be toxic. Supplements with high doses of beta-carotene (more than 15 milligrams per day), a substance from which the body produces Vitamin A, increase the risk of lung cancer.

If pregnant women take too much vitamin A, the risk of birth defects in the baby increases.
