Two or three times a year we have to hit the nail again and remind the students not to forget to make a detour to the Red Cross to donate blood. This is what happened today in Louvain-la-Neuve, an appeal was made to them.
At the beginning of the academic year, after two disorganized years of the health crisis, there is an urgency: the Red Cross records a significant decline in the number of donors. The blood supply is running out dangerously.
Lack of blood has great consequences
The biggest of these is that some patients see their treatment postponed and this finding is worrying! Each year the Red Cross counts on 90,000 donors, of which 20,000 are replaced annually, but this year the succession is not guaranteed.
Hence the special student days such as the one organized today in the center of Louvain-la-Neuve.
As a reminder: you must be at least 18 years old and in good health to take the plunge. The blood donation itself lasts 12 minutes, it is better to make an appointment on the donator de sang.be site or go to a collection without an appointment. The Red Cross is already telling you: “blood for blood thank you”!
