“Many people cannot control stress” – Wel.nl

Due to the corona crisis, many more Dutch people are facing burnout. Stress from working from home and job insecurity could be one of the causes, according to new research from the National Center for Prevention Stress and Burn-Out (NCPSB).

In addition to direct indications of an impending burnout, the NCPSB also looked at indirect factors such as reduced analytical skills and poorer conflict management. Chairman Theo Immers responds in the AD: “We are seeing a tremendous increase in the risk group due to the corona crisis. 56 percent of workers will drop out within zero to six months if they do not receive support now. In 2019, when we also conducted this survey, it was 17 percent. ”

According to the research, there are 4 million ‘hidden burnouts’: people who are in danger of falling within six months if nothing changes. Earlier research by the CNV union also indicated that work stress and burnouts are increasing due to the corona crisis, although the number of people who suffered a burnout was significantly lower at 11 percent.

“In the CNV study, only the people who know that they are dealing with burnout came forward,” explains Immers. “But we know that people who experience stress find it difficult to analyze themselves.” Moreover, there is a taboo on work stress. “If you are a partner at a large firm, you are not going to say that you are about to fall.”
