Liverpool’s Senegalese Sadio Mane spoke of the Reds’ domination of the domestic league, the strengths of his coach Juergen Klopp and his mother’s hatred of soccer.
During his interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Mane said: “I heard yesterday that when we are crowned in the Premier League we will get medals, I did not know this was happening.”
“I don’t care about medals or personal prizes,” the Senegalese player added.
He continued: “Liverpool’s domination of the English Premier League has not been easy this season, we know very well that Premier League is the best league in the world and every match must give your full energy to win.”
He continued: “This is what we strive to always provide, but we must continue to work hard to get what we want, our goal from the beginning is to win the league, so if we win it, it will be great for the club and the fans.”
Mani praised his coach Juergen Klopp, noting that it would be an “honor” if a German statue was built in Anfield.
Mane continued, “I definitely think it will be a great event, because he is a great coach, working hard for the club and the players.”
“He has his own way of working, he gives his players greater responsibility on the field and it is really important, at the same time he is a very friendly person and this is one of his strengths.”
And about his village that grew up and said: “I came from a very small village far from the capital, Dakar, it was very difficult, but you have to have faith in yourself, never give up and work hard, I think this is the key to becoming something.”
Although he became one of the best players in the world, Mane says his mother and uncle “hate football” and have always believed that she is a waste of time.
Mane comments: “They didn’t want me to play football so I had to go to school and try to do something else, but my success in the ball proved to them that they were wrong.”
Mane has given a lot of money and aid to hospitals in his hometown of Senegal. The Liverpool player says: “I don’t want to talk about this, I’m trying to do what I can.”
“Everyone in Senegal has become a fan of Liverpool, and the fans are proud of their accomplishments,” Mane added.
The 27-year-old continues his speech: “Two years ago it was not so, there were more fans of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but now Liverpool is everywhere.”
“When Liverpool play now, it looks like the national team is playing, so if we win the league title, it will be amazing,” he says.
Mani concluded his speech by saying: “When I return to my village, they treat me like a king. They are proud and happy to reach this level.”
It is worth noting that Liverpool is close to winning the English Premier League after an absence of 30 years, where the Reds are ahead of the Premier League table, 22 points behind second-placed Manchester City and the local title in the last two seasons.
