Mandy (34) was on the ic with corona and wants more positive stories: ‘You only read negativity’

Mandy was admitted to the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven on March 17 after being infected with the coronavirus. “Then I had had a high fever for a week. At first I thought it was the flu. But at some point I couldn’t get out of bed.”

“Gagging to the toilet”
And it quickly got worse. “The doctor came next, in a kind of space suit. I was given pills and pneumonia was being thought of. I was also coughing and getting cramped. I have to walk five meters to the toilet, but from that little piece I was completely out of breath and had to retch. “

“You mainly read stories about people who don’t end well.”

She was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance. “I was told there could go two ways: whether it ends well or not. That is very intense.”

“Everyone was so sweet”
Although Mandy was unexpectedly snatched from her family situation, she remained positive. “It is difficult without your children, but chapeau for the nursing staff there. There are so many people who normally work in other departments and now do their best and always give a listening ear. Everyone was so sweet and they work so hard there. Hats off. “

“My oldest still tells me every day how nice it is that I am back.”

When Mandy herself was in the hospital, she would have liked to read more positive corona stories. “You mainly read stories about people who do not end well. Only death and destruction. The victims also seem to be getting younger. Then you lie there as a young woman of 34 and you think: it will not happen to me that I dies. “

In the hospital it was especially a lot of video calling for Mandy to keep in touch with her family. “I had never been away from my kids for a day. And only one visitor could come by and that was my mother. I hadn’t seen her in weeks because she was in the risk group.”

Mandy has been home for a few weeks now. “I was fired on April 1. But I still notice that it still does something to me. I still have mental problems. I also talk to my psychologist about that. But you did get away. My oldest says against every day how nice it is that I am back. “

‘Only stories about the hell of the ic’
By telling her story, Mandy hopes to provide some relief to others. “I would have liked to have had more support in the hospital. You only read stories about the hell of the ic and that it does not end well. That especially frightens more.”
