Manchester United got Amrabat on the last day of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old is on loan for a season with a permanent option next summer.
His arrival is expected to strengthen MU’s midfield, which looked fragile earlier this season. The ‘Red Devils’ had difficulty controlling the game and lost in the middle area, so far picking up two wins and two defeats.
MU manager Erik ten Hag has been wanting a new defensive midfielder this summer. But he was forced to make it the umpteenth priority considering they also needed a center forward and goalkeeper, and were experiencing limited funds.
“Since the start of the season one of my hopes has been to get another number six, an anchor midfielder, in the squad because throughout the season you need depth there,” he said.
“In that position, we only have Casemiro who can play very well. With other players, we have to compromise, but with Sofyan Amrabat, we have other pure players.”
“He can also play alongside Casemiro because he can play a little bit up front. So it’s really good to have him and it feels like he fits really well with the Premier League, with the Champions League.”
“He is very dynamic, he is very good in duels. So we are happy to have him and I feel he will contribute to the high targets we set,” said the Dutch manager.
