Gary Neville thinks Manchester United is putting the striker on hold. Gets support from Norwegian United editor.

The former Manchester United defender admits that he was stunned when he first heard that the club was chasing Cavani before this season.

Neville is clear that he was skeptical that United signed the then 33-year-old striker, but is today clear that he has been convinced by the Uruguayan’s performance in the United shirt.

– I think he has been a sensation in every possible way, says Neville at Sky Sports.

Cavani signed a new contract with Manchester United on Monday and the football expert believes the striker’s contract extension will now have consequences for Manchester United’s player hunt this summer.

Neville believes that the club will not chase a new striker when the transfer window reopens. This despite the fact that they are connected to both Harry Kane and Erling Braut Haaland.

– If Manchester United sign Kane. If Cavani then gets to play, Mason Greenwood will get the development that United want, Neville asks.

Believe in Sancho signing

The former United player believes Manchester United want to continue the development of both Rashford and Greenwood, but that they will also try to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford before next season.

– Now I no longer have the contacts on the inside that I used to have, so this is my assumption. They have been desperate for Jadon Sancho. They were criticized for not signing him last summer, I criticized them for that. But they can look incredibly smart if they manage to get him for close to half price this year for waiting 12 months.

– I think Sancho is coming in. I think it’s obvious that Sancho will play on the right side, where they potentially have Greenwood as a back-up. At the top you have Cavani and Greenwood. And on the left you have Rashford and Martial, says Neville.

At the same time, the expert believes that Juan Mata, Daniel James and Jessie Lingard are players who will leave Old Trafford this summer.

United editor also believes in Sancho

Dag Langerød, editor of Manchester United’s Scandinavian supporters club, goes a long way in supporting Neville’s prediction.

The United editor believes it makes sense if the club drops the hunt for Haaland or Kane this time around.

– The problem with Erling Braut Haaland and Harry Kane, if you are to interpret what you read and hear, is that they become very expensive. Tottenham do not want to sell Kane so much under 150 million pounds and then they have Erling Braut Haaland who there is reason to believe will have the best paid salary if he goes to Manchester United. In addition, Dortmund will have a lot of money for him. If you were to go for one of them, it would swallow the entire transitional budget, Langerød says to Nettavisen.

He therefore thinks it makes more sense for the club to go for Sancho.

– Jadon Sancho who may be available for 75-90 million pounds a more natural choice, says Langerød.

The editor believes that it can allow the club to also pick up players in other positions.

And he has no doubt that United need a player like Sancho.

No later than this week, German Bild announced that Manchester United are trying to sign Sancho in the coming transfer window and that the club allegedly hopes to get an agreement in place already before the European Championships.
