Manchester United Comes from Behind to Beat Nottingham Forest 3-2: Match Highlights and Recap

Manchester United work hard at entertaining Nottingham Forest. MU trailed by two quick goals before fighting back to win with a final score of 3-2.

From MU vs Nottingham Forest held at Old Trafford, Saturday (26/8/2023) evening WIB. The visitors made a surprise after scoring two quick goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly in the first four minutes.

Christian Eriksen scored MU’s reply to reduce the 1-2 down at half-time. The Red Devils fully came back in the second half with two additional goals from Casemiro and a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

Nottingham Forest ended the game with 10 players after Joe Worral was shown a direct red card by the referee.

With this result MU rose to fifth in the standings after collecting six points from three matches, one point adrift of Tottenham Hotspur at the top. Nottingham Forest ranks 14th with three points.

Course of the Match

Nottingham Forest immediately silenced the host public. Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring in the second minute!

Morgan Gibbs-White headed the ball forward, freeing Awoniyi up front. Marcus Rashford, who took to the defense line, tried to chase Awoniyi, but the latter player calmly penetrated the penalty box and then finished with a low shot. Forest lead 1-0 over MU.

MU’s start from bad to worse. Just two minutes later, Willy Bolly increased Nottingham Forest’s lead to 2-0.

Starting from Gibbs-White’s free kick from the right wing, the ball rolled in front of MU’s goal. Bolly responded with a header that beat Andre Onana’s mark.

MU finally able to score a goal back in the 17th minute. Starting from a long-range shot by Bruno Fernandes, Matthew Turner pushed over, the ball was rebounded by Rashford with a cross. Eriksen latched on to Rashford’s pass with a close-range flick to make it 1-2.

United nearly scored an equalizer nine minutes later. Fernandes’ corner kick bounced into the penalty box, Casemiro, who was standing unmarked, greeted with a header but the ball went off the mark.

A MU opportunity was born in the 32nd minute. Crossing Antony met Anthony Martial in the penalty box. When Martial was about to make a flick, Willy Boly made a crucial block so Turner could anticipate the ball.

After the restart, MU continued the pressure on Nottingham Forest. In the 52nd minute, Casemiro carved his name on the scoreboard while balancing the game at 2-2.

Starting from Fernandes’ free kick, Rashford continued with a gastric cross to Fernandes near the goalpost. Casemiro grabbed Fernandes’ bait from close range.

MU nearly scored a third shortly after. Antony curled a shot towards the far post, but Turner stretched his body to palm the ball away.

In the 67th minute, Nottingham Forest had to play with 10 men after Joe Worrall was sent off. Worrall was sent off after being deemed to have missed a scoring opportunity by fouling Bruno Fernandes.

Superior in the number of players, MU locked Nottingham Forest. Danilo’s violation of Rashford made the referee point to the spot. Bruno Fernandes stepped forward as the executioner, then fired a powerful shot that Turner was unable to hold off.

MU turned 3-2 lead over Nottingham Forest in the 76th minute.

Entering the last 10 minutes, Nottingham Forest came out of MU’s pressure. Willy Boly fired a shot from the right side of the penalty box despite being pushed over by Andre Onana.

In the midst of MU’s efforts to maintain their position, Nottingham Forest carried out a dangerous attack. Anthony Elanga’s cross rolled in front of MU’s goal, but Chris Wood failed to reach the ball even though it had the potential to be a goal.
