Man Who Killed Six At US Christmas Parade To Be Jailed For Life | Abroad

The man who killed six people in a car during a US Christmas parade in November last year has been sentenced to six life sentences. There is no possibility of parole. However, the judge added a symbolic 1,067 years to his sentence to underscore the seriousness of the deadly crime.

The youngest victim was eight years old. The other victims were aged between 52 and 81. Among them were members of the marching band.

Darrell Brooks drove his car through police barricades on November 21, 2021 and then drove in the annual parade in the city of Waukesha. In addition to the six dead, 62 were injured, including dozens of children. The police concluded there was no terrorism. President Joe Biden called it “a terrible act of violence.”

The 40-year-old man insisted during his trial that he wasn’t going to drive through the crowd. The judge rejected that statement. “When you’re driving through crowds and over kids, your intentions are clear. It wasn’t an accident.”

The judge says he was awake from the case and turned to Brooks in sentencing. “You have absolutely no regrets whatever you do. You show no compassion for anyone. Mr. Brooks, no one is safe around you.”
