Man stole car with two puppies – put the puppies out in the cold – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

Around 23.15 on Christmas Eve, the operations center in the Eastern police district received a report that a car had been stolen from an address at Maura in Nannestad municipality.

– In the back of the car were two greyhound puppies. The car was with the engine on since the puppies were in the car, says operations manager Terje Marstad in the Eastern police district to NRK.

Police began searching for the car in the area around Maura.

Found the puppies in Oslo

A few hours later, the police in the East were called by the police in Oslo. They had been notified that two puppies had been found in the roadway in Persveien in Oslo, close to the E6, 53 kilometers from Maura.

– We were called by a person who had taken care of two dogs. We connected it so that it could be the two who were missing in Romerike and put the offended in contact with the person who found the dogs, says operations manager Line Skott in the Oslo police district.

It turned out to be the puppies that were stolen from Maura earlier in the evening.

Shortly afterwards, the stolen car was observed on Maura.

– About the same time we received a message that the stolen car was moving on Maura. It was a skilled witness who followed the car and told us where it was driving at all times, says Marstad in the Eastern police district.

– Just luck that the puppies were found

The car parked outside an apartment on Maura. Police traveled to the scene, entered the apartment and arrested a drunk man in his 40s.

– He was arrested at the residence, says Marstad.

– So the man drove to Oslo, put down the dogs, and then went back to Maura?

– That’s correct. It is indisputable that the dogs have not managed to get to Oslo on their own. He has left the puppies out in the cold helpless condition. It’s way too cold for puppies to be out now. It is just luck that the puppies were found and that the police were contacted, says the operations manager.

It was around seven degrees below zero in the area night to Saturday, according to Yr.no

Marstad says that the dog owner has now got back both dogs and a car. The two dogs are doing well according to the conditions.

Man reported

The man in his 40s who has been arrested has now been reported for a number of conditions.

– He is reported for violation of the Animal Welfare Act, car theft, driving under the influence and driving without a valid driver’s license, Marstad says.

He further says that the man has been taken to the emergency room to take the necessary tests in connection with drink-driving. The man will be questioned on Saturday.
