Man missing for years found dead in New York – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – A Newtown man who has been missing for nearly 10 years was found dead in New York earlier this week and investigators said he was living under another name during the disappearance.

Newtown officers received a call on July 29, 2013 to check on Robert Hoagland after he failed to pick up a family member at the airport and also failed to report for work that day.

During the investigation, authorities said they found the family’s cars and Hoagland’s wallet, medicines and cell phone at the family’s home. He was last seen on July 28, 2013, at a petrol station on Church Hill Road.

As the investigation remained open, the sightings were received and investigated nationwide.

Authorities said Hoagland’s disappearance received a lot of media attention and was featured in a number of Investigative discovery call Disappeared.

The Sullivan County, New York, Sheriff’s Department contacted the Newtown Police on Monday with possible information about Hoagland’s whereabouts.

Police said the New York Sheriff’s Department responded to the untimely death of a man at a home in Rock Hill, New York. They were initially unable to identify the man, but did find documents showing Robert Hoagland’s name.

Detectives said they later learned that Hoagland was not in Newtown. Detectives from both police departments met and confirmed Hoagland’s identity.

His remains were taken to the Sullivan County Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Authorities said there were no signs of foul play.

According to investigators, Hoagland had lived in Sullivan County since November 2013 and used the name Richard King.
