ROSSUM – A 19-year-old boy from Tubbergen was hit by a coach on Sunday evening after the Twentse Pirate Party in Rossum. He had to be taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. It is unknown how he is now.

Reinold Hutten, co-organizer of the Twente Pirate Party, confirms the incident. According to Hutten, the young man ‘came under a taxi bus’. He does not know much more at the moment, he is still being updated by the first aiders who provided first aid on Sunday evening.

It was very busy in Rossum, Sunday afternoon and evening. The popular German Schlagerzanger Heino performed in an immense marquee, which attracted about seven thousand visitors. Afterwards there was a coming and going of taxis and buses on the party site.

Leaving the tent
According to Hutten, the visitors did not all leave at the same time. The music stopped before the bar closed, so that people would leave the tent ‘phased’. According to Hutten, the accident did take place when many people left, presumably between half past eight and nine o’clock.

A coach driver, who arrived shortly after the incident, described the logistics as “chaotic” for him and his colleagues. According to him, the – mostly intoxicated – visitors, who walked towards the buses and taxis, did not realize how dangerous it was there. “This was asking for trouble.”

Smeared with beer and spareribs
While the police assisted Tubbergen with the emergency services surrounding the accident, a bus of the police force was smeared with beer and spare ribs by other visitors to the party. “Luckily, the victim was happy we were there,” the police said on Twitter.

It is not the first time that someone has been injured after the party. Four years ago, a young man was also hit by a coach. According to witnesses, the man had run next to the departing coach, after which he ended up under the vehicle.
