SEATTLE – Authorities said a man drove his car Sunday night toward protesters protesting the death of George Floyd, hit a barricade, and then exited the vehicle with a firearm.
In the incident, at least one person was shot and a man was arrested, The Associated Press reported.
The victim is a 27-year-old man who received a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, the Seattle Fire Department said.
Video taken by a reporter for The Seattle Times newspaper shows part of the scene in the Capitol neighborhood of that city, where hundreds of protesters have gathered for several days, near the police precinct.
The Seattle Times reported that the shooting occurred while the gunman was still in the car.
A witness to the scene, identified as B.J. Hayes told the newspaper that he saw the car heading toward the protesters. He reported that as he approached the protesters, several people approached him, trying to slow him down.
The injured man appeared to have been shot while trying to reach through the driver’s window. He fell back and the gunman got out of the car.
