Man arrested after filming drowning: ‘Left to his fate’ Inland

“The filmed images show that the victim is in the water,” said a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service. “At one point, the suspect comes to his aid when it is clear that he is getting into trouble, but in our view that was too late. The question now is when exactly the suspect realized this.” According to the spokesman, the man eventually pulled the victim out of the water. He would have given the video images to the police himself.

The victim, also a 53-year-old man from Den Bosch, died on Friday in the IJzeren Kind, a lake on Jan Heijmanslaan in his hometown. He was there with the suspect and got into trouble while swimming around 3:30 pm. The suspect filmed all this with his mobile phone.

An autopsy on the victim’s body shows that he did not die due to an unwellness, such as a heart attack, according to the Public Prosecution Service. “There are indications that are consistent with a drowning death.” Toxicological examination must determine whether the deceased swimmer was intoxicated.

The suspect has since been released. The investigation into the incident continues. This should show whether the man is suspected, and if so, of what exactly.
