Man accused of murdering teacher Sabina Nessa | Abroad

Koci Selamaj, from Eastbourne, South England, was arrested on Sunday. Monday night he was charged with the murder of the young woman. The 36-year-old man appeared before the judge of Willesden Magistrates in London, where he was assisted by an Albanian interpreter.

The man must appear again on Thursday, then before the correctional court of Old Bailey. The man’s lawyer, Aidan Harvey, said the man will plead not guilty.

Blanket of leaves

28-year-old teacher Sabina Nessa disappeared on September 17 when she returned home after a night out. A passerby found her body the next day, hidden under a blanket of leaves, in a park.

On Friday evening, hundreds of people gathered for an impressive vigil in honor of Nessa. They brought flowers, banners and cards for the woman’s family.

The murder of Sabina Nessa happened a few months after that of Sarah Everard, the 33-year-old Londoner who was attacked and murdered in the street. That case sparked a heated debate about women’s safety in public places.
