Kunhalikutty will lead the assembly elections in Thiruvananthapuram. Kunhalikutty’s resignation is likely to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections in Malappuram along with the Assembly elections. KPA, the state general secretary, said that resigning as an MP and entering state politics was a party decision and not the opinion of individuals. Majeed told a news conference.

After winning the Vengara assembly constituency and becoming an MLA, PK resigned from the post. Kunhalikutty is contesting from Malappuram. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kunhalikutty got the largest majority in the state after Rahul Gandhi.
CPM’s VP Kunhalikutty contested against Sanu and won with a majority of 2.60 lakh votes. Kunhalikutty resigned as an MP less than two years after the Lok Sabha elections and returned to state politics.
