There are many statues in Leuven, but one is the best known among the people of Leuven. That of “De kotmadam” on the Oude Markt in Leuven. But the rest of Flanders may also know the image from the intro movie of the TV series “De kotmadam”. The statue’s creator, artist Fred Bellefroid, has now passed away. He had been struggling with his health for some time and was 76 years old.
“It’s a very nice image”, says a passer-by on the Oude Markt. “The woman has a coffee pot in her hand to give the students coffee. It’s a kotmadam sitting on a couch, beautifully done.”
