Major work in the boiler room of the former Saint-Julien hospital

Major work to replace the current boilers is underway at the boiler room of the former Saint-Julien hospital. The mayor of Saint-Ferdinand, Yves Charlebois, has also mentioned it on his Facebook page.

The Integrated University Health and Social Services Center of Mauricie-et-du-Center-du-Québec (CIUSSS MCQ) confirms that it has awarded the project to the firm JC-7 Signature in Laurier-Station for a sum approaching the $ 2.3 million.

The work aims to replace the existing boilers with new modern units. “It is the obsolescence of the equipment that leads us to carry out this work. This will ensure production stability and security for our laundry service, in addition to being more environmentally friendly, ”said CIUSSS MCQ information officer Kellie Forand.

In order to ensure redundancy at all times, it is planned to have mobile boilers on site which will take over during the work. Everything should be completed by spring.

Among the current boilers, two of them are original, therefore in place since the construction of the building in 1933 while the third was replaced in 1968. However, the three boilers have passed their useful life date, hence their replacement.

Among the new units, two will run on oil and one on electricity. “We are starting a transition to a greener system. This is why we changed the oil used in the fuel oil units for a more ecological version and replaced one of the units with an electric version ”, indicates Ms. Forand.

She is also careful to repeat that this work was undertaken because of the obsolescence of the equipment and not in connection with a new vocation of the Maison du Sacré-Cœur.

“Analyzes are underway to assess the needs of our organization and the possibilities offered by these facilities. No decision regarding the future of the Maison du Sacré-Coeur facilities has yet been taken. Likewise, no announcement is planned for the moment, ”she added.

As for the mayor of Saint-Ferdinand, he remains confident that the CIUSSS will soon confirm its intentions regarding the future of the facilities of the Maison du Sacré-Coeur, which have been closed since 2014.
