Major damage due to fire in the Alphen aan den Rijn center

A big fire raged last night in the center of Alphen aan den Rijn. The fire started in a restaurant and spread to the thatched roof of the building next door. The roofs of both buildings have collapsed, the fire brigade reports. The damage is great, there are no injuries.

Surrounding buildings were evacuated and about fifteen residents were taken care of in the town hall, reports Broadcaster West. A lot of smoke was released during the fire; people in the area were advised to close windows and doors. According to the fire brigade, the adjacent buildings have a lot of water and smoke damage.

The fire was reported at around 3 a.m. and at 6:30 a.m. the fire was under control. The fire brigade is still working on extinguishing in the coming hours. Research is also being conducted into the stability of the buildings.
