Main Points of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Armistice Agreement Page all

MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday (10/11/2020), agreed peace agreement which is mediated Russia to end the fierce battle for weeks.

They find long-term solutions to disputes in the region Nagorno-Karabakh disputed, as quoted from AFP on Tuesday (10/11/2020).

The following are the main points of the agreement, which came after Azerbaijan managed to reclaim significant territory it had lost from Armenian separatists in war 1990s in the region.

The agreement was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

A ceasefire and a cessation of all hostilities have been agreed from midnight Moscow time (2100 GMT) on Tuesday.

The two sides will maintain positions in the territory they currently hold, a significant advantage for Azerbaijan after reclaiming about 15 to 20 percent of the lost territory including the main city, Shusha.

Peacekeepers

Russian troops consisting of 1,960 military personnel with small arms, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 cars and special equipment will be deployed to the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Its job is to act as a peacekeeper along the front line and secure the Lachin corridor that links the region to Armenian territory.

The peacekeeping mission will last for 5 years and can automatically be extended for a period of 5 years as long as neither party withdraws from the agreement.

Territory returns

Armenia will return control to Azerbaijan in the Aghdam district on November 20, Kalbajar district on November 15, and Lachin district on December 1.

The 5-kilometer Lachin Corridor will connect Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, following the previous route via Shusha.

Interchange of prisoners, refugees back

The refugees and refugees will return to neighboring territories and districts, which were previously under Armenian control.

Both sides will also exchange prisoners of war and other detainees, as well as corpses.

Corridor

Armenia will guarantee transportation via Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan, to the exclave of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which borders Turkey, and transportation communication development will be provided.

The agreement makes no mention of the future status of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh or the format of future negotiations to resolve the conflict.
