The Munich German rap legends Main Concept are back. On Friday, the rap pioneers released the second single from their studio album 3.0, which will be released in May.
Rich man, poor man
Stylistically, the veterans stay true to their line on “Brecht was Right” and rap about social inequality and the neo-capitalist system on a dirty boom-bap beat. A scratched Nas vocal sample from the legendary ILLMATIC track “Nas is like” gives the whole thing a little more weight and also underlines the critical statement of the group, which can be summed up with a quote from Bertolt Brecht: “Rich man, poor man stood there and looked at each other – the poor man said, pale: If I weren’t poor, you wouldn’t be rich. “Bertolt Brecht was right.
After a six-year break, the new album will be released in May
The studio album 3.0 of the historical formation is due to be released on May 28, 2021. Her last group project HERE AND NOW appeared in 2015 and marked the fifth release of Main Concept.
Pioneers of German rapeseed
Main Concept are among the absolute pioneers of the German rap cosmos. In 1994 the band released their debut album COOL SHIT, which belongs to one of the very first German rap albums that actually contains German lyrics. Even if Main Concepts have lost their fame and success over the years, they are still referred to as pioneers who helped make rap music socially acceptable in the reunified Germany in the mid-1990s.
