Maidan cases – Verbitsky torture suspects may be released

Recall that in relation to the accused, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention in a pre-trial detention center until August 7, 2021, and the request for an extension of the term was never considered in court.

“With regard to the accused, a preventive measure has been chosen in the form of detention for a period until August 7, 2021. The indictment in this criminal proceeding was submitted to the Belotserkovsky City District Court of the Kiev Region on July 1, 2021,” the press service notes.

On July 9, 2021, due to the failure of the defendants’ defenders to appear, the prosecutor appealed to the court with a request to apply a preventive measure in the form of prolonging the detention of suspects, but the court scheduled the next hearing for July 21 of this year. On the same day, the panel of judges, ignoring the aforementioned motion, sent the criminal proceedings to be transferred to another court.

“In the future, the determination of the Kiev Court of Appeal dated August 4, 2021 stated the groundlessness of the issue raised by the Belotserkovsky City Court on changing the jurisdiction and the case was returned to the said court to continue the trial,” the press service adds.

On August 5 and 6, the court sessions also did not take place due to the fact that two members of the collegium went on vacation, and the next date of the session has not yet been determined.
