COVID-19: two new cases confirmed in Quebec

Public health authorities in Quebec today announce the confirmation of two new cases of coronavirus infection.

Recall that the infected person recently made a trip to France and called Info-Santé 811 on his return, because he learned that he had been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. A sample was then taken in a hospital center in the Montérégie. The person is currently in solitary confinement at home.

The other person, meanwhile, returned from a trip to northwestern Europe and consulted in a hospital center in the Montreal area. The person is currently hospitalized at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, one of the four centers designated in a center of expertise in infectious diseases.

The analysis result of this last case could be quickly confirmed because, from today, the Quebec Public Health Laboratory (LSPQ) no longer sends its results to the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg (NML) for confirmation, unless an unspecified result. Indeed, the test developed in Quebec has been validated and deemed sufficiently robust for confirmation to be made directly to the LSPQ.

In both cases, efforts to find close contacts of the infected persons are still under way. Those affected will receive the appropriate recommendations.
