Mafia: doctor Giuseppe Guttadauro and son arrested – Sicily

The Carabinieri del Ros arrested in Palermo Giuseppe Guttadaurosaid “the doctor”, former head of the Palermo Civic Hospital – already finished in prison 22 years ago, a leading exponent of the Cosa Nostra Palermitana, involved in the past in the investigation into moles at the Dda in which the former president of the Region Totò Cuffaro – and the doctor’s son was investigated, Mario Carlo Guttadauro.

The investigations have revealed, among other things, the role of Giuseppe Guttadauro in a drug trafficking. Guttadauro would have organized a drug trade with foreign countries, financed by some Palermitans, opening a channel for the acquisition of cocaine with South America and with an Albanian for the supply of hashish. The organization could have counted on a flight attendant, in relations with Guttadauro, who would have had to transport 300,000 euros to Brazil when the shipment of drugs from South America arrived in Holland.

Furthermore, the investigation of the ‘doctor’ revealed the frequentation of wealthy areas of the capital. He would have intervened, with the promise of a hefty remuneration, to resolve a dispute of about 16 million euros that a rich Roman woman had with a banking institution. Guttadauro would not have hesitated to propose the possibility of using violence if her intervention had not succeeded in settling the dispute. In that case, Guttadauro would have charged someone to beat up whoever would have hindered the solution of the affair.

The intercepts also show other aspects of the character, such as harsh criticism from the mafia doctor towards the new generations of mafia members, triggered by the news of the collaboration with justice of Francesco Colletti, a man of honor who later repented. Guttadauro, in his dialogues, said he was concerned about the revelations of another repentant, Filippo Bisconti, and spoke of the need, openly represented to his son, to “evolve” while remaining anchored to the principles of Cosa Nostra.

Giuseppe Guttadauro (for whom house arrest was ordered) and his son Mario Carlo (who ended up in prison) are accused of mafia-type association. The two are challenged for belonging to the Cosa Nostra family of Palermo-Roccella (included in the Brancaccio-Ciaculli district) and for intervening on the most significant dynamics of the Villabate-Bagheria mafia district.

As part of the same investigation, other Palermo subjects are being investigated, three of which are considered to be affiliated with the Palermo-Roccella family and two, in competition with Mario Carlo Guttadauro, of aggravated injuries.
