Maersk intends to form a joint venture with Grindrod in South Africa ‹Fruchtportal

To improve its capabilities as a global logistics integrator in South Africa, AP Moller-Maerks is now taking the next step to partner with Grindrod Limited to provide logistics solutions to deliver.

Through this proposed joint venture, the logistics activities of Grindrod Intermodal’s business and ocean operations of Ocean Africa Container Lines (OACL) will complement the current ocean capabilities and logistics & services of Maersk, giving customers seamless access to a wide range of end-to-end Supply chain solutions is made possible.

Maersk will have a 51% stake in this proposed joint venture, which improves access to onshore infrastructure and the capabilities essential to deliver reliable logistics solutions.

With over 100 years of experience, The Grindrod Group is a well-known and trustworthy partner in South Africa. It is Maersk’s ambition to build on Grindrod to expand its offerings for customers.

Customers looking for end-to-end solutions in South Africa will continue to work with Maersk, but once completed most of the landside execution will be handled by the proposed new joint venture.

The transaction is pending regulatory approvals, including required antitrust approvals. The new organization will be formed and activated in a few weeks after the relevant authorities have given their approval.
