Pop star Madonna is under fire after a video surfaced online showing her berating a concert-goer for not standing up during her performance. The incident took place at Madonna’s Vancouver concert on Feb. 21st at Rogers Arena, and has since gone viral, causing outrage on social media.
In the video, Madonna can be seen pointing and directing her comments at an individual in the crowd, questioning why they were sitting down. It was later revealed that the person Madonna was addressing was in a wheelchair.
“What are you doing sitting down over there? What are you doing sitting down?” Madonna asked during her performance, unaware of the individual’s condition.
Many social media users expressed their outrage towards Madonna, criticizing her for making assumptions and not being considerate of people with disabilities.
“What an absolute disgrace! Shame on her! That’s unacceptable!” wrote one Twitter user.
Despite immediate backlash, Madonna quickly apologized on stage, stating, “Oh, okay. Politically incorrect. Sorry about that. I’m glad you’re here.”
Some fans came to Madonna’s defense, highlighting the fact that she apologized and expressed remorse for the incident. Others called for a broader understanding of disabilities and inclusivity at concerts.
“It’s good to see Madonna being quick to recognize and apologize for unintentional mistakes. It’s important to be considerate and inclusive of all audience members, regardless of their abilities,” one user pointed out.

The pop star was in Vancouver as part of her “Celebration Tour,” entertaining fans with her hits and high-energy performances. Madonna’s next concert is scheduled for Mar. 11 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
