XALIMANEWS- The French President had to cancel a long planned stay in Dakar. Macky does not intend to miss the opportunity to advance several important bilateral issues during a one-on-one with his counterpart.
The most interesting part of the stay that Macky Sall will make in France next week does not lie in his meeting with French employers, during the Summer University of Medef (the French employers’ organization)., Informs Le Daily. In fact, Macky is going to make the Lagardère and return to Emmanuel Macron the visit that the latter could not make in Dakar.
We remember that at the end of last June, Macky Sall had to quarantine himself for 15 days, after having “been in contact with a person infected with Covid-19”, as the press release from the presidency of the Republic. This situation had led to the cancellation of the visit that the French President had planned to make in the same period to Senegal. Since then, no other opportunity has presented itself for the two leaders to meet.
However, although diplomatic contacts remain constant, several bilateral issues still require direct exchanges between the two heads of state. The partnership between the two countries is solid, but it still needs to be nurtured. There is also the fact that President Macky Sall has found in Macron a strong ally in his crusade for the cancellation of the debt of the least developed countries, because of the Covid-19. Since the head of state made this suggestion, international institutions and multilateral partners have shown some interest, but little has been done in this direction, even though debt service has been suspended for three months by some institutions. Both partners will need to revive things at this level.
In addition to that, Senegal has always known how to count on France when it needs funding; and this in several areas. Macky Sall never shies away from recalling that when he came to power in 2012, in view of the situation of the National Treasury, when he wondered how he was going to be able to pay the salaries of civil servants, it is an emergency support from 60 million euros, granted by the then French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, which allowed him to get his head out of the water. This quality of relations allows him to be confident that he will still find a way to finalize the financing projects for certain infrastructures that will be discussed in Paris.
Once this has been done, he will then have time to go to Longchamp, and talk to members of French employers during their Meeting of entrepreneurs from France, a new name for summer universities. A meeting that will bring together around 2,000 business leaders is a great opportunity to present the investment opportunities that Senegal offers through PSE. Macky Sall does not intend to miss it.
