Macabre pact between two nuns ended with the body of one of them in a travel suitcase – Diario La Página – 2024-04-16 12:43:47

An 80-year-old woman kept the body of her deceased friend for several months and then got rid of it, abandoning the remains inside a suitcase on a street in the commune of Ñuñoa, in the Chilean capital, Santiago.

The body was found this Monday. Although at first an act at the hands of organized crime was suspected, on Wednesday the authorities announced that the body had no signs of violence and that the incident involved two friends who had made a “pact.”

According to the subprefect of the Investigative Police, Juan Fonseca, the investigated person identified as Lorenza Ramírez and the deceased Erica Fernández, who was 59 years old, met in a parish when they were serving.

«They were consecrated laywomen. They maintained a friendship and she states that she was very fond of him and that they had made a commitment between the two that neither of them would report if they died. “She reports and refers to this pact in the sense that they were not going to report each other and were not going to register, and that they were going to take care of each other until the last of their days,” she indicated.

The woman, who was charged with illegal burial, decided to remove the body after one of her daughters arrived home. «Faced with the probability that she discovered this suitcase with the body of her friend, she decided to leave it on the street. That is the only logical explanation we have so far,” explained Francisco Lanas, the prosecutor in charge of the case.

Surveillance cameras captured the moment in which the woman, dressed in the habit, dragged the suitcase containing the remains.
