Lukin after voting for amendments to the Constitution left Yabloko

Member of the Federation Council Vladimir Lukin left the Yabloko party, of which he was one of the founders.

In a statement signed on March 11, the day the Federation Council approved constitutional amendments introduced by President Vladimir Putin, Lukin wrote that he was voting for the amendments because he was authorized by the executive branch of the Tver region, which he represents. At the same time, Lukin writes that he realizes that such a position is contrary to the position of the party.

Only one member of the Federation Council was against the amendments, three abstained.

The executive committee of the Yabloko bureau on March 11 considered Lukin’s statement and decided to consider him to have left the party. About it wrote on Thursday, a member of Yabloko Nikolai Kavkazsky.

  • The Yabloko Democratic Party was created on the basis of the Yabloko election bloc, organized before the 1993 State Duma elections. The first three letters in the name of the block are the names of its leaders – Yavlinsky, Boldyrev, Lukin.
  • Lukin was Russia’s ambassador to the United States, then for 10 years – deputy of the State Duma from Yabloko, then – Commissioner for Human Rights. Member of the Federation Council since 2016.
  • The Yabloko party is strongly opposed to the amendments that Vladimir Putin proposed to introduce into the Constitution. Its representatives in the Legislative Assemblies of the Federation on March 12 voted against the approval of the amendments.
