The resignation of Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski is a huge surprise. I am concerned about what may be happening now in health care, said Professor Andrzej Matyja, president of the Supreme Medical Council, on TVN24. Łukasz Szumowski resigned from the function of health minister on Tuesday. The day before, he also gave up Deputy Minister Janusz Cieszyński.

The decisions of the management of the Ministry of Health were commented on Wednesday by professor Andrzej Matyja, president of the Supreme Medical Council, on TVN24.

– This decision of Professor Szumowski is not only for me, but I think that it is a great surprise for the entire medical community, as well as for patients. In such a difficult period in which we find ourselves, there has been a resignation, and we do not really know the reason – he pointed out.

He added that “he is concerned about the situation that may happen now in health care”. – The resignation of a minister and a key deputy minister may lead to a complete disorganization of work, said Matyja.

In his opinion, dismissals in the health ministry “constitute a huge threat” to “health and economic security”. – In recent days the pandemic has intensified, we have a record number of cases. If we do not keep the epidemic in check, a lockdown may occur again, he warned.
