Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ahead of the election on February 14, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan opened up about the position of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP.
Luhut admitted that he was confused by the attitude of Megawati Soekarnoputri’s party, which was not in a position to support Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to him, the reason why PDIP’s success needs to be acknowledged is because of Jokowi.
“That’s why it’s also strange to me why PDIP isn’t in that position (supporting Jokowi). I’m strange. Why didn’t he make that compromise, PDIP’s success story is because of Jokowi, we have to be honest, don’t deny it,” said Luhut in Political Show Podcast “Opung Luhut is Back” on YouTube CNN Indonesia, quoted Friday (9/2/2024).
Luhut did not deny that the party that made Jokowi President of the Republic of Indonesia was PDIP. However, according to him, Jokowi’s principle of building himself is his own strength and needs to be respected.
“There is a rating profile of 82%, only 1 year left of his presidency (term of office as president). Not a lame duck. For me, if our PDIP, I would actually capitalize, but I see it differently, that’s his (PDIP) business, that’s it. “So I said to my friends, let’s just carry Prabowo, because in my opinion, if we don’t, our country will fall into 0 again,” he said.
On the other hand, Luhut said he would support Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election, if presidential candidate number 3 could continue the programs that Jokowi is currently implementing.
“If Mr. Ganjar brings and continues these programs, I think yes (I support it), because I don’t think he has any other business. I’m not asking for a position, remember. There’s no one, I’m asking for a position. If he (Ganjar-PDIP) loses There’s nothing else to do,” he said.
Luhut hopes that in the future Indonesia can unite or work together in developing the country. According to him, whoever the president is elected, that president cannot develop Indonesia alone. If there is a president who thinks he can build a country alone, he said, then that country will collapse.
“What I only regret is that we are together if we are different, because one person can’t solve it. Whoever the president is, he can’t do it alone. If he thinks he wants to do it alone, he will do it himself,” he said.
On that occasion, Luhut also mentioned PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri. He said he had never once collaborated and emphasized that he had never worked under Megawati.
“What business do I have with Mrs. Mega? Nothing. I have never worked with her, I have never been under her. What’s wrong if I… My mother/father is the original PNI (Indonesian National Party), you know. That’s why I said “To PDIP friends, you are the only ones who are insensitive,” he concluded.
