Lufthansa and its daughters are reducing their flight offers on the routes to Italy and Asia due to the coronavirus epidemic, in some cases significantly. “In addition, the frequencies on domestic German connections from Frankfurt to Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Paderborn as well as from Munich to Berlin, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bremen and Hanover will be reduced”, announced the company.
After the group companies Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines had already suspended their flights to mainland China, the management is reacting with the additional cuts to the increased spread of the virus.
Flights to Italy, Hong Kong and South Korea remain suspended
The group airlines, which also include Eurowings and Brussels, are suspending part of their planned flights to Italy, Hong Kong and South Korea in March and April. Flights to mainland China will be canceled until April 24, the same applies to connections to the Iranian capital Tehran until April 30.
Depending on how the situation develops, the group could cut its range of short and medium-haul flights by up to a quarter, it said. In addition, up to 23 long-haul aircraft remained on the ground. Lufthansa has already announced an austerity program. The effects on profit cannot be estimated at the moment, it said.
