In addition, the prosecution believes that Lucy Letby is behind ten attempted murders between 2015 and 2016.

The nurse was working in the neonatal ward at Chester Hospital in England when, according to the indictment, she allegedly carried out the cruel acts.

BBC writes that the prosecution claims Letby has used various methods to injure or kill the children, including injections of air and insulin poisoning.

The trial has been ongoing since October last year, but only this week did Letby begin his defence, writes the British broadcaster. She rejects all the accusations against her and believes they are “nauseating”.

– I have only done my best to take care of them, Letby said in court this week.

When asked what she thought when she was told she was accused of being involved in the deaths, she said she couldn’t believe it.

– I don’t think you can be accused of anything worse, she added.

The Guardian writes that one of the infants was only 24 hours old when the 33-year-old allegedly injected the baby with air. The newborn boy is said to have died 90 minutes after Letby arrived at work. In addition, she is accused of having tried to kill his twin brother the next day.

I DID THIS: This note was found at Letby’s home and is used as evidence in the trial.

During the trial, the court has seen notes that the police found at the 33-year-old’s home. On one of the sheets she has written “I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough” and “I did this, I’m evil”, according to BBC.

– I felt I had somehow been incompetent and done something wrong, which affected these babies. I felt that I must have been responsible in some way, answered Letby when asked why she wrote this.

The nurse has said during the trial that she has been diagnosed with PTSDPTSD posttraumatic stress disorder after she was arrested for murder and attempted murder.

The trial began on 10 October 2022 at Manchester Crown Court and is expected to last eight months.
