LTA criticizes the government for failing to fully inform entrepreneurs

The government’s announcement of the meeting until November 15 was not unexpected, but Latvian traders are outraged by the inability of the prime minister and other ministers to fully inform the industry about support mechanisms and other important issues, says Henriks Danusēvičs, president of the Latvian Traders’ Association (LTA).

“The rules of the game are not clear, because no one is ready to talk to companies in the industry. It is not possible to work this way. Compensation and tests – there are two basic things that entrepreneurs should understand, ”Danusevics points out, emphasizing the lack of support for the industry to promote vaccination among unvaccinated workers.

LTA explains that it is very important for operators to maintain the validity period of 72 hours of tests, because at 48 hours the work process is very difficult. There is also no clear answer about the possibility of continuing to test workers with rapid antigen tests.

Danusevics emphasizes that retailers also want a clear answer about compensation, as stores will have significantly reduced working hours during the home season.

A working group chaired by the Minister of Finance, John Reir (JV), is currently preparing proposals for wage subsidies; payment of sick leave (B) from day 1, but only for vaccinated employees; working capital support, but not in accordance with the above criteria. Ministry of Economics for its part, promises an extension of the payment of taxes, but a decision on it will be made in the near future.

It has already been reported that from Thursday, October 21 to November 15, particularly strict Covid-19 restrictions will come into force in Latvia. As the Minister of Health Daniels Pavļuts (AP) informed after the meeting of the Crisis Management Council on Monday, during this period all stores, except for basic necessities, will not work and only the most necessary services will be available. It is also planned to introduce a home session from 8 pm to 5 am.
